Find the pair – fractions, percentages and decimals

Match the cards that mean the same number. There is no time limit and no points are taken off – if a pair is wrong, you will see what each card really is.

How do you play?

Choose a card from the left column, then a card from the right column that means the same number. For example, 1/4, 0,25 and 25% are the same number: one of four equal parts. If you choose a wrong pair, you will see what each card really is. There is no time limit.

In Poland decimals are written with a comma: 0,25 means 0.25. The game uses the Polish way, as in school and in the exam. The Polish eighth-grade exam is called egzamin ósmoklasisty.

How do you turn a fraction into a percentage?

A percentage is a hundredth. Write an equivalent fraction with denominator 100: 3/4 = 75/100 = 75%. If that is not possible, divide the numerator by the denominator and multiply by 100: 1/8 = 0,125 = 12,5%. Fraction to decimal: divide the numerator by the denominator, 2/5 = 2 : 5 = 0,4.

Which pairs are worth knowing by heart?

1/2 = 0,5 = 50% · 1/4 = 0,25 = 25% · 3/4 = 0,75 = 75% · 1/5 = 0,2 = 20% · 1/10 = 0,1 = 10% · 1/8 = 0,125 = 12,5%. They help with percentage problems, with fractions and when you compare numbers.

What is the most common mistake?

Copying the digits instead of converting: 1/8 is not 0,8 and not 8%. 1/8 is one of eight parts, which is 0,125, which is 12,5%. A picture helps: a strip of eight squares with one of them shaded.

How does this help in the eighth-grade exam?

In the Polish eighth-grade exam you need to switch quickly between fractions and percentages. In 2025, question 1 – what percentage of the number b is the number a – was answered correctly by 59% of pupils. In 2026 the same skill was tested in open question 17: the success rate was 65%, and almost 52% of pupils gave a full solution. The game reinforces the most common pairs.
